20 years later, Martsch aims for something like the heart of the song when playing Keep It Like a Secret live, piecing together a melodic throughline from beneath all the swirling layers of fretwork. Between this and his amp live, he uses three Dunlop Echoplex EP-1 boosters for gain stages – all three on together are a deafeningly epic sound that has to be heard to be believed.
